Our pilot programs in Kenya and Uganda demonstrated real impact, with the farmers seeing improved food security and incomes as they put their 3-month training in permaculture design into practice, create their model farms, and built collaborative networks with other farmers in their communities. Our first pilot project in Kenya ended successfully early in 2020, our 2nd project in Uganda completed in the summer of 2021 and our 3rd project, back in Kenya, ended in September 2023.

We started this pilot program in June 2017, and have made a great journey turning theory into practice. Our approach of working with selected training centers in East Africa, where they already work with local farming communities, means that we can make the most of their experience in training and support that is adapted to the needs of local conditions and cultures.
We've taken the first steps towards creating a new network of nonprofits called The Farmers Alliance for Restoration to continue the work started by permEzone. A new NGO has been registered in Kenya to be the regional hub for the programme in East Africa, and they have now started their first post-pilot project with the farmers in Nyahera Village, Kisumu West, Kenya, with the 30 lead farmers starting their training in January 2024.
With your continuing support we can maintain this momentum, and expand the program to work in cooperation with additional centers in E. Africa, and carry out the detailed program of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) that will ensure that we continue to learn and grow, and achieve the greatest benefits possible.
Our MEL team of academics and development professionals have been working together to monitor, evaluate and report on the program's impact. Feedback from the trainers, the farmers and their support workers will inform the continuous development of the program, and the creation of a knowledge-base and support-base for the roll-out of the service world-wide.
