Looking Forward

The Farmers in Kisa West
Our last newsletter in September brought you stories from some of the 30 lead farmers who started their work on the 18-month extension stage of the permEzone project in June, working with the team at C-MRA (Community Mobilisation for Regenerative Agriculture). We’re sharing below some more recent photos to show that these farmers are sharing the benefits of their training despite the challenges caused by restrictions on gatherings and introduction of curfew due to COVID, and the prolonged drought which has affected their activities and their crops.
We start the new year with the hopeful news that COVID restrictions are being lifted, and that the long rains are anticipated to start early this season.
Kijiji Ukulima Eco
Kijiji Ukulima Eco is a Community Based Organization in Gem, Siaya County, Kenya founded by the youths in the area to address disruptive agricultural practices and landscape degradation. The organization is adopting people and nature centered approaches.

This December, the team at C-MRA conducted a 6-day permaculture training for the 30 members, including theoretical and practical sessions that the attendees found to be very beneficial.

Beyond the Pilot Rollout
The team at C-MRA is looking forward to a hopeful 2022 when it will embark on intensive extension work with the permEzone project participants in Kisa West, helping the lead farmers to continue setting up their model farms and building their networks for farmer-to-farmer extension.
C-MRA is also taking the lead in setting up a new non-profit to continue the work of the permEzone programme throughout East Africa over the coming years. They will be aiming to partner with community organizations across the region, including Kijiji Ukulima Eco, to continue sharing this work with many more farming communities in the future.
We look forward to sharing more information about this new non-profit in 2022.

Please help to make this incredible program available to many more communities of farmers, so that they too can re-shape the future of their families, their farms, and their local economies –

PLEASE DONATE WHAT YOU CAN TO SUPPORT OUR WORK TO BUILD ON THE SUCCESS OF THE PERMEZONE PILOT
